2023 Ryder Cup Captains Join the Field

2023 Ryder Cup captains Zach Johnson and Henrik Stenson are competing in the 2022 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing. South Carolina’s annual PGA TOUR event will be held April 11-17, 2022 over the famed Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, S.C.

HILTON HEAD ISLAND, SC (Tuesday, March 29, 2022) – The Heritage Classic Foundation, a 501 (c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting educational and charitable initiatives to enhance the quality of life and economic vitality throughout South Carolina, is proud to announce 2023 Ryder Cup captains Zach Johnson and Henrik Stenson are competing in the 2022 RBC Heritage Presented by Boeing. South Carolina’s annual PGA TOUR event will be held April 11-17, 2022 over the famed Harbour Town Golf Links on Hilton Head Island, S.C.

They will join a field that includes defending champion Stewart Cink and Team RBC Ambassadors Dustin Johnson and Harold Varner III. Team RBC Ambassadors and past champions Matt Kuchar, Graeme McDowell, Webb Simpson and Brandt Snedeker are also vying for a chance to win another tartan jacket. Other notable commitments include Abraham Ancer, Daniel Berger, Matt Fitzpatrick, Tommy Fleetwood, Collin Morikawa, Cameron Smith and Justin Thomas.

On February 28th, the PGA of America officially named Zach Johnson as the American captain at the 2023 Ryder Cup in Rome, Italy. He was the favorite for the job after serving as vice captain for Jim Furyk in 2018 and Steve Stricker in 2021. Johnson, who is 46, will be the youngest American Ryder Cup captain since Tom Lehman in 2006. He is a 12-time winner on the PGA TOUR, including victories at the Masters and British Open Championship. The Iowa native will be making his 17th start at the RBC Heritage.

Henrik Stenson will be the first Swede to captain a Ryder Cup team. The 45-year-old served as Europe’s vice captain in 2021 and has competed on the team five times. He has carded six PGA TOUR victories including the British Open Championship. He was named FedExCup Champion in 2013 and he also has 13 International wins. He will be returning to Harbour Town for the first time since 2012.
